Again today I saw John's bike in the river
When's somebody gonna drag that thing out
The rims were warped and the vinyl seat was tattered
Only we know what that was all about
Oh, the river
Oh, river run
Oh, the river
Lying like a serpent in the sun
River towns are left now for the wealthy
Another mansion's rising on the bluff
Floor to ceiling windows for the luxury
Of gazing at the dried and cracking mud
It's funny how familiar gets forgotten
It's like John's bike isn't really even there
Buried to it's axles in the culvert
Nearly as invisible as air
And I keep thinking you'll appear like magic
Like blacktop heat waves rising from the street
The days and months and years have all gone misty
Water disappearing, bones from meat
